...That's right, someone other than Hugh Glove had to pull out a win for the Elkhorn last night!!! It was a beautiful hit by the Elkhorn GM that brings the 'Horn closer to a record winning season in any sport! Some folks in the gallery were whispering that the Elkhorn GM would fan on the 'at bat' just so the Summer GM didn't end up as the winningest coach in Elkhorn history, but in true Elkhorn fashion the Elkhorn GM hit one for the team.
Yours truly on the other hand sat by leisurely (see picture above) until he was really needed and ended up making the most amazing game winning "sun in your eyes" diving catch...only to have the Summer GM "lose it" on the sidelines and blaming "yours truly" for being out of position. All I (Hugh Glove) could do to contain myself whilst the Summer GM was embarassing me in front of my team mates and all of my fans was to internally thinkWWMD. It's clear that my mentor Magnum would have been the perfect gentlemen in this situation and I followed my mentors words of wisdom to a "T"!
So with the score tied and international rules (thank god the Summer GM new the rules) set for the 8th inning and Rob "the short stop" at 2nd base, Elkhorn GM knocked a sac' fly to the outfield somewhere around 275ft and Rob the "short stop and 4th in the batting order" leisurely trotted home!
With 2 games left in the regular season, yours truly will be doing more rest and relaxation at West Hawk...see picture above..."I need to really rest the bones and prepare for the playoffs" is how I put it to the Summer GM, whether he liked it or not! Now that's dedication...not like all those "school teachers" we have on our team with big fat contracts and then take off every other game because they're on vacation crap! I'm talking real dedication (again see picture above)!!!

Love the "sight" Hugh and I especially like the fact that your team doesn't discriminate considering you've let Casual Observer play on your team. Now that I've had the opportunity to see Casual Observer in action, I think I may take him up on his invitation for coffee!
Thanks for the message dancing gabe, I know casual observer will be happy to read that you are interested in that coffee. You know he really does have a great sense of humor and the white cane doesn't really get in the way during the game even though we kid him a lot. Actually his recent move to third base put him right in the middle of "thuner alley" and he's really risen to the occasion!
thanks again Gabe...and with the playoffs in the horizon we expect you to be dancing up a storm at our games!
Unfortunately Pete's ribbee will not go into the record books...the commish has other things to say.
Just like Ron put it.."I feel sorry for the guy"....
I know Pete does not look for sympathy, and he certainly does not look for accolades like Hugh.
I think the team needs to sit back and reflect on how well I have done with the team in placing players where they can be best utilized.
Hugh, are you OK with catcher?
Love your Blog,,,I had a tough time squeezing in due to the popularity! Your shutting down servers all across the world!
As far as the stats....
I don't recall you hitting any game winners....
I do recall a tie game, 3 and 2 count, 2 outs, with a runner on second against Ump Yours with the Summer GM at bat where a double was hit! Elkhorns win! Elkhorns win!
Witnessed by many awestruck onlookers including the Commish!
Oh sorry Hugh...you don't get moments like that often....I shouldn't have brought it up..
Pete...your on the way baby!!!
Hugh, enjoy West Hawk...we wanna see the tan lines!
It's about Leadership...
See my book,,,and instructional video.
A good read and a good view.
The beautiful hit by the Elkhorn GM that should have been for a victory is an indication he just wants to win period!
Put me down for 2 WWMD T-shirts.
Hugh the blog is FANTASTIC.
Dear Summer GM, as you well know I am okay wherever I play as long as I see results by our team and not excuses. As you can also see I have read your book and agree with you completely. So with that, I say again, I'll play anywhere as long as I see results! For example; recently it has come to the attention of Hugh Glove that his play on the field has been less than perfect...If "I", Hugh Glove wasn't a team player I might consider staying out at West Hawk for the entire week and miss our next game just to prove a point. That's just not my style as you well know and not the style of a true champion! Perhaps I need to remind the Summer GM that "Hugh Glove" has been on 2 Elmwood Championship teams over the years and can easily make it a third if he really puts his mind and his HUGE BAT to it!
So moving forward to the remainder of the season and the "results not excuses" mantra...Summer GM, I can read between the lines, I know how you feel about my play and that this "hard ass" management style is simply one of your multi-faceted managerial approaches (you've learned over the years) that is required in this new age underachieving era. I get that and I can see just how well this works with upstart players, agents, and the like when used by a master such as yourself! You know that I support your "Zip it " attitudes towards certain players and that I completely support your attention to the small details like rehydrating on the bench during those hot summer days! Heck, I even supported your 2 red bull high last game even though I was the brunt of your management style! All I'm saying here is that I think we'd all like to see your soft side management personality make an appearance once in a while.
So in closing, I thank you for all of the kingd, supportive terms and words you use to motivate me each day and promise that I'll show up on Monday, bright and early...ready for "results and not excuses"!
It seems that the hard ass management style does not work with the hard ass egos.
I suggest the Summer GM take note and go for Hugh Gloves 3rd Elmwood Championship.
I was searching on Ebay and found a trading card that many might see as a collectors item.
I bought it as I thought I recognized the player.
Check it out on the "Official Elkhorns Softball" site.
It's no wonder we scoop everything up in left field!
All I have to say tonight is: why did I have to finish my last drink with Wes & Sherry?? I told two members of the team I had one more round coming & they still left! Remember I am the Elkhorn GM; just because it is summertime does not mean the magic doesn't work.
On other news, the Summer GM has a bet with Hugh Glove; who can place a hit. One beer per round. Hopefully Craig and/or Barb has a little extra cash on hand as I say Hugh gets at least 6 freebees.
Right....Blind baseball is where I learned to "snap up" those dead balls so quickly. Old habits are hard to break, if you watch really closely, I close my eyes for added challenge. This was the only way they'd let me play on the blind team.
I see I was in the running for the "Magnum" contest. That is cool. I should dig out an old pic from '83. Had a 'stache that made me a true lady killer!
The Guy in the Hot Corner.
I can't let the lady Killer comment by!
Casual..If you recall...you never even dated a gal from hi school! Guys maybe,,, but no chix! I seem to remember you and Harold Bell necking in the stairwell!
Your moustache was just about to fill in, and then you plucked the 17 hairs out!
Sorry....but it's the truth and the truth hurts. Fuck you for never calling me anymore!
Your friend
Ken "back brace" Dann.
I agree "back brace". I'm sure if you post your phone number; Casual will call. He was just telling me the other night, "I wonder how my old buddy Ken is doing, I would call him but I lost his number".
I thought he was talking about McEwan but obviously he was talking about you.
Ron,
Call me, 272-3976
*smooch*
Sorry,
I can not believe that you would denigrate Hugh Glove's most excellent blog with the Ken Dann rubbish.
Please, if you are going to post comments after your 12-15 rummies/whiskies please exercise a little discretion.
Losers!
SO does that mean your not gonna call Casual?
